You Just Lost

Have you ever been in a situation where you thought  you had everything you could ask for? I’m talking about a job that pays good, cool friends, a sexy lover, and more. Have you ever had these things and then one day everything disappeared? I’m talking about losing your job, losing your lover, and having your closest friends turn their back on you? Sucks doesn’t it? Never worry. Like my grandmother sometimes tells me, “There is always a blessing in the midst of the storm.”

High Horse

There is no feeling like having everything you dream of. If you’ve ever been in love with a beautiful man or woman, you know first hand just how special your significant other can make you feel. It’s like, Finally, someone who listens to me, understands me and makes me feel good every time we’re together.

If you’re the type who loves to get paid then you know there’s nothing that feels better then being able to buy the things you desire. Some say that money isn’t everything. Others say it’s right up there with oxygen. Most people aren’t rich by far, but there are a lot of people who get paid enough money to manage their bills and their family. Of course we all strive to have more, but just being able to maintain what you have or maybe even buy a little bit more can make anyone feel like they’re on top of the world.

Along with having a good job and a good lover, people usually see you as the one to be around. Most people say that you can’t buy friends or happiness. There are studies that show that people adore people who make money and have a smoking hot date more than they admire people who do not have these things. A big bank account and a sexy date gives other people a sense that you know what you’re doing in life, and so they come to admire them. Along with admiration usually comes envy as well. Whether you know it or not, there are people who absolutely want to see you fail. So what happens to these so-called friends when you suddenly lose the good job, the nice car, the big house, and the hot date?

Kicked While You’re Down

Isn’t it weird when you’re young and you have a good job and a hot partner and everyone wants to be your friend? What’s even more weird is what happens to those same “friends” when you lose it all.

Sometimes things happen to people that are way out of their control. I have known people who were on top of the world with the high status only to lose everything to a drunk driver. There are also countless stories of people who make bad choices in their lives only to go broke or bankrupt. Why is it that when certain things happen to you, the ones you thought were your friends are the first ones to throw dirt on your name and character?

I don’t know about you but I can’t relate to perfect people. People who have it all together. The ones who seem to always say what the next should have done in a situation they’ve never experienced. You know who I’m talking about. The people who seem to have it all together but can’t get past their own self hatred. Yup. The ones who have all the answers.

In my most humble opinion, I’d rather have someone who has been a sober for 2o years help me with my alcohol problem than to listen to someone who has never tasted a drop of alcohol in their whole life. How does that even work?

In the song at the beginning of this article I mention a line that’s pretty intriguing, and so true for most people. It says “But the hatred brings me to life, so it’s somethin’ I’m needin.'”

If you listen to anyone who has ever gained a good measure of success, you will hear them talk about their humble beginnings. I’m pretty sure you’ve heard of a guy name Bill Gates right? He was considered by many a failure with him dropping out of college to start his first business which failed. We all know how that story goes. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t be able to connect with you on this level right now. Am I right?

Comedian, Dave Chapelle, was on top of the world with his stand up show. Some call it the funniest show ever! He actually walked away from a 50 million dollar contract. What did people say about his after that? He was labeled a crackhead who went to Africa to smoke crack. What sense does that make? He could smoke all the crack he wanted to right in the heart of any major city in the US. The thing about Dave Chapelle is this, he stood for something solid and didn’t sway from his decision. What was the outcome? several years later he returned to comedy only to be offered a 60 million dollar deal. Talk about resilience.

So what’s the point? There are so many people in this world who will label you insane or crazy for many many reasons. Especially when you are in a winning position and then you lose it all. So what do you do when everyone you’ve ever known has counted you out? You learn. You grow courageous. And best of all, you receive a much better outcome than before. There’s just one major key though. What’s that you ask? The key is to never give up. I know it’s cliché but its true.

If you lose your money and your girl leaves you, let her leave. You make a decision that costs you money and your friends bail on you, let them go. If they’re real, they’ll be there to lift you up. If not, then they weren’t down for you. They were just down for the status you bring. Like my favorite public speaker. Les Brown, always says, “don’t give up on your dream!!”
